National Health Insurance Bill passed into law
(CitifmOnline) - Parliament on Monday passed the National Health Insurance Bill into law without the 0.5 percent profit before tax.
The National Health Insurance Law will help raise some GhC 180 million annually to fund the National Health Insurance Scheme.
The money will go into supporting free medical care for ailing children, the aged, mentally ill Ghanaians, amongst others.
The NHIS law is aimed at providing universal health insurance coverage to all persons resident in the country and persons not resident in the country, but who visit the country regularly.
Meanwhile, the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) has been challenging the feasibility of the one-time premium payment for the NHIS.
According to the NPP, the unscientific approach adopted during the consideration means the proposal is unrealistic and not feasible.
