Students to pay N1600 for health care scheme yearly

(AllAfrica.com) - Students of tertiary institutions across the country are now to key into the social health insurance scheme in order to have easy access to health care.

Executive Secretary of the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Dr. Abdulrahman Sambo said in Asaba yesterday at a one-day workshop organized for the South-South retirees that the blueprint for the programme has been finalized to flag off the students' involvement in the scheme with yearly contribution of N1600 per student.

The executive secretary, represented by Dr. Amamatu Yusuf, a deputy general manager with the organization, said those in private sector employment would not be left behind when the scheme kicked-off before the end of the year.

Assistant General Secretary, Nigerian Union of Pensioners (NUP) Ahmed Ibrahim Gazali said the aged pensioners in Nigeria are always inflicted with scores of diseases which include hypertension, diabetes, arthritis and senile dementia.
