Governing Mandatory Health Systems

This book provides guidance to countries that want to reform or establish mandatory health insurance (MHI) with regard to the institutional structures and forms of governance that are most likely to succeed. It specifically aims to identify key differences in how MHI systems are governed and to cull lessons from experience. By describing governance arrangements in greater detail and making the effort to develop institutional variables that can be compared across different countries, the book also contributes to the applied research literature that, if successful, will ultimately link different institutional forms to better and worse performance.
