UHC Forward: Towards Universal Health Coverage

Expanding access to health insurance is an important part of an overall strategy to achieve universal health coverage (UHC). Nigeria will need to make crucial decisions if access and financial protection in the context of health are to be expanded to cover the majority of the population. The Health Policy Project’s new report “Scaling up National Health Insurance in Nigeria: Learning from Case Studies of India, Colombia, and Thailand” explores the experiences of three countries as they developed government policies as a strategy to achieve universal health coverage. The report presents lessons learned from these countries which should be useful for stakeholders involved in expanding and improving the NHIS in Nigeria, and for other countries working to achieve UHC.
